Theodore Roosevelt's Hunting Knife – Adventure Forged in Silver
Theodore Roosevelt didn't just read about the frontier—he lived it. Rough Rider. Trust Buster. Big game hunter. The 26th President charged San Juan Hill, explored the Amazon, and rewrote conservation in America. In 1909, as he prepared for his legendary African expedition, his friend Justice James W. Gerard presented him with a ceremonial hunting knife—a blade as bold as the man who carried it.
This coin recreates that 1909 masterpiece in exacting detail. The handle features an eagle's head with red garnet eyes, exactly as the original. One side of the hilt depicts two American frontiersmen—likely Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett—gathered around a campfire. The other showcases the Great Seal eagle between two trees, flanked by a wishbone. Below sits an Art Nouveau intertwining of Roosevelt's initials "TR," where the "T" forms the eagle's wings. The handguard is shaped like two outward-facing bear heads. The blade bears the inscription: "Presented to Theodore Roosevelt by His Friend, James W. Gerard."
Issued by Samoa in 2025, this 2 oz .999 silver legal tender coin measures 150 x 28 mm with antiqued high relief and selective gold gilding. Limited to 1,909 pieces—commemorating the year Roosevelt received the original knife.
The Rough Rider's blade. Rendered in silver and gold.
