Gonggong: Wrath of the Water Deity

Gonggong, the ancient Chinese God of Water, stands as a figure of untamed force and chaotic power in Chinese mythology. Known for serpent-like body, and an iron forehead, Gonggong was feared for his destructive influence over water. As the direct adversary to Zhu Rong, the God of Fire, Gonggong’s myth is marked by battles that shook heaven and earth, symbolizing the duality and balance of elemental forces.

The reverse of this 2 oz silver coin vividly depicts Gonggong commanding the seas, surrounded by colossal waves as he conjures a destructive whirlpool. His formidable companion, Xiangliu—the nine-headed serpent beast—joins the scene, symbolizing chaos and emphasizing the theme of water.
