Kiss of Death: The Prohibition Era Unveiled

The 'Kiss of Death' is more than a coin – it's a narrative canvas, rich with layers of symbolism. The name itself nods to the infamous mafia term, an intoxicating cocktail, and the clandestine knuckle duster. The reverse captures Lucky Luciano with his tommy gun, flapper girls, and mobster showdowns, framed in Art Deco style. The obverse features protests, vintage cars, and dramatic newspaper headlines, along with King Charles III's effigy, affirming its legal tender status.

Issued by the Republic of Cameroon in 2024, this 2 oz legal tender coin is made from .999 fine silver, measures 55 x 32.6 mm, and has a face value of 2000 Francs CFA. Its shaped, antiqued ultra-high relief finish with color enhances its allure. Limited to just 1920 pieces, this coin offers collectors a rare opportunity to own a piece of Prohibition-era history.

• A coin is defined by its official issuance, not by its physical shape. This piece is formally issued as legal tender by a sovereign issuing authority, with an official denomination and year of issue.

• Money and coinage have also taken unconventional forms throughout history, including ancient Chinese knife- and spade-shaped money. Spectres continues that idea in modern legal tender, where a coin may be round, shaped, functional, sculptural or fully three-dimensional.
