About the Piece
Guan Yu was a general who served Liu Bei during the final years of the Eastern Han dynasty, remembered for his valor and loyalty and later venerated as Guandi. Centuries after his death, Romance of the Three Kingdoms placed the Green Dragon Crescent Blade (青龍偃月刀) in his hands. The weapon itself belongs to a later period, but the image became inseparable from Guan Yu. Across folk art, temple imagery, opera and later film, television and games, the broad crescent blade became as recognizable as his red face, long beard and green robes.
Spectres takes that established form and gives it its own interpretation in silver. The familiar crescent blade and long shaft remain, while the “Green Dragon” identity is carried through the weapon itself: a coiled dragon runs across the blade, sculpted gilded dragons rise through the mount, and high-relief scales wrap the grip.
Guan Yu’s Green Dragon Crescent Blade became the first weapon in Spectres’ Three Kingdoms collection. Zhang Fei’s Serpent Spear followed, pairing the sworn brothers of Romance of the Three Kingdoms with the weapons that became inseparable from their legends and remain instantly recognizable across Chinese visual culture.
